Black Mighty Wax (Cesare Cera’s main stage name) began working in the music industry in the late 1970s, playing as a drummer and percussionist with various funk-jazz bands. During the 1980s, he worked as a radio DJ, expanding his musical knowledge and developing a growing passion for funk-soul, jazz, and 1970s disco, playing these genres more and more frequently. In the early 1990s, with the explosion of house music, Cesare Cera found the inspiration to begin his own productions, collaborating with Soundhands & Elise and forming the group BE NOIR. With “Give Me Your Love,” released in 1991, Be Noir received excellent feedback from DJs in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan, also achieving good results in specialized charts around the world. From that moment on, he fell in love with house music, in its most elegant forms. Co-founder of Irma Records at the time, he worked for the label as International Label Manager and producer.
He was the mastermind behind several highly acclaimed compilation series such as Acid Jazz and Soul Classics, Jazz House Independents, NascoDisco, This Is Soulful House, Sister Bossa, and Chill Out Café. However, Cesare Cera returned to his roots and his original passion for melodies and real instruments, and in 1999 he began producing tracks for an album, bringing together musicians he had previously collaborated with live or who had previously participated in Irma Records releases. So, instead of using his main stage name, he opted for the more “defined” name The Black Mighty Orchestra, namely Black Mighty Wax, who leads various musicians assembled as an orchestra. The title “To the Sky” reflects his spiritual attitude toward life, a desire for freedom and escape. 18 tracks that fully showcase his vast musical experience, from his early funk beginnings, through forays into urban soul and nu-jazz, to his touching and human interpretation of disco and jazz sounds. One of Irma’s most successful albums to date. Over the past 20 years, he has composed and produced numerous original songs under the aliases DJ Moses, South Park, The Unkempt, and Dancefloor Syndicate, in addition to his own original, commenting on the need for various aliases to further differentiate each particular musical creative moment and song style. The sound of these productions leans heavily toward funk/jazz, disco, and house with electronic elements, the use of samplers (he’s a DJ…) and real instruments (he’s a musician…). A Black Mighty Wax album titled “We, The Family” was released in late 2012, featuring guests such as Sarah Jane Morris, Neffa, Gazzara, Black & Brown, LTJ Xperience, and Ohm Guru. Black Mighty Wax has hosted “Irma Nights” at various clubs and exclusive venues, where he loves to showcase his label’s productions.
