BOSSA NOSTRA

Bossa Nostra is one of the most iconic projects of IRMA Records’ acid jazz, funk, and nu-jazz season. Born in the mid-1990s within the Bologna music scene, which helped redefine the Italian lounge and electronic sound, the project debuted in 1995 with the album Solaria, a sophisticated and elegant blend of black music, funk, soul, and bossa nova influences that has become a cult classic of European acid jazz. Central to the project is the production of Luca Trevisi, a key figure in the Italian jazz-house scene, while Bossa Nostra’s sound is enriched by the presence of international musicians and vocalists such as Vicki Anderson, a legendary voice associated with the James Brown universe.
The group was formed in the aftermath of the international acid jazz explosion, when European artists and producers began to blend funk, jazz, soul, and Brazilian music with electronic sounds and downtempo grooves. In this context, Bossa Nostra became one of the iconic projects of IRMA Records’ new musical identity, alongside artists such as Jestofunk, Gazzara, and Ohm Guru. Bossa Nostra’s productions are distinguished by cinematic atmospheres, funk basslines, jazz arrangements, and Brazilian influences, anticipating many of the sounds that would define the international lounge and chill movement in the years to come. Even today, the project remains one of the most refined and recognizable expressions of the IRMA Records catalog: a bridge between acid jazz, contemporary soul, and European club culture.
