  • NU BRAZ

Nu Braz is the music project founded by singer/musician/DJ Emmanuele Cucchi, son of trombone player Franco Cucchi, member of the Riverside Jazz Band, and singer Anna D’Amico, who played a main role on the Italian music scene in the 60’s. Emmanuele has been a professional singer since the age of 5, when he started to record children songs. He has also played various leading roles in theatre and is the artistic director of 3 music clubs in Milan – Roïalto, Milano, InnVilllà – and 2 restaurants in São Paulo – the famous Brasil a Gosto, owned by his good friend Ana Luiza Trajano, and L’Amitié, run by internationally known French chef Yann Corderon. During the years he’s also been working with famous Italian fashion stylists like Armani, Rocco Barocco, Lorenzo Riva, Ferragamo and many more. His love for Brazilian music in all its forms has been constantly growing throughout his long career until, thanks to the help of Maestro Jose Mascolo – who already worked with his father Franco in the Riverside Jazz Band and with his mother Anna in many concerts – Emmanuele decided to become part of the beloved Green and Gold world. Following the success of his debut album ‘SONHO BOSSA’, project based the fusion between Brazilian music, electronic grooves and Italian melodies from the fifties, Nu Braz decided to make a big step forward and found new important collaborators for the realization of his second work. ‘BATICUMBUM’ was recorded in Milan, São Paulo, Paris and Rio De Janeiro, blending in its grooves the different cultural influences. While in Milan top musicians like SOULSTANCE, Giacomo Tringali, Jose Mascolo, Marco Brioschi, all members of the original Nu Braz backing band, were involved. S-TONE Inc. together with TOCO (singer and author for Rosalia De Souza and Roberto Menescal) wrote and arranged a wonderful Baião song (typically from the Pernambuco region). Rinaldo Donati and his guitar created the perfect atmosphere for a cover of the great Fagner and Belchior penned song MUCURIPE. In Paris the violin parts were recorded together with Ricardo Herz from Brazilian group ORQUESTRA DO FUBÁ. In Brazil Emmanuele worked in his own Nu Braz Estúdio in Rio with RICARDO JANOTTO, LUCIO K, JESSÉ SADOC and recorded a duet with singer JAIR OLIVEIRA, son of the great Jair Rodrigues. When the album was practically finished he recorded another marvellous song with producer and friend Kassin, with the participation of DONATINHO, son of bossanova icon João Donato, on Rhodes. After this session Emmanuele was invited by Kassin and Berna Cespas to perform some songs from the album at the pre-carnival baìle ‘ORQUESTRA IMPERIAL NO CIRCO VOADOR’ (Rio De Janeiro, 2nd Feb 2010). Duda Mello, nominated twice for the Grammies, took care of the final mixing of the record, helping Nu Braz to emphasize the variety of the songs arrangements on the album, to represent the wide spectrum of Brazilian music styles. The mastering of ‘BATICUMBUM’ was done at the Magic Master studio in Rio by Grammy Award winner RICARDO GARCIA. GUTO COSTA, famous photographer of the Brazilian stars, took care of the photo session for the album.

The powerful URCA FILMES, producers of various movies and DVD’s like ‘Os Desafinados’, ‘João Donato ao Vivo’ and severals episodes of MULTISHOW (Estúdio 66), realized the video of the first single from the album ‘COME PRIMA’, duet with Emmanuele’s sadly missed mother Anna D’Amico.

  • SISTER BOSSA Vol.10

Tenth volume for Sister Bossa, the most important European collection of contemporary music contaminated by Brazilian music. The selection opens as usual with songs closer to the nu jazz world, to move on towards bossa nova, funk and finally house. The first tune is taken from the album by Maestro Garofalo, with Alan Scaffardi on vocals, who sang on ‘Staying For Good’ by Papik (one of the genre’s hits of the past season). Followed by Papik himself, featuring the voice of Ely Bruna, with his new single ‘Notes of The Past’. Papik produces two more songs in this compilation: ‘Why I Love’ by new artist Fred Buccini and Ely Bruna’s own ‘1986’. London based radio stations Jazz FM and BBC are already playlisting these ones.
Of course we couldn’t have done without Aaron Tesser and his New Jazz Affair with lead vocals by Fabrizio Rispoli, with an unreleased radio version by Viani DJ of the first single from his new album. The selection moves on with the cinematic sound of John Type, the latin touch of Caradefuego and Robert Passera’s exciting cocktail style to land on United Peace Voices’s new production, a happy solar bossa. From here on we get into a more uptempo territory with the funk of Nu Braz and the latin house sound of Belladonna, Estrela Guia, Don Carlos and XuXu feat. Tempo Rei. Final touches of the compilation are an unreleased tune by the late DJ Rodriguez and a very peculiar song by Faze Liquide featuring the voice of Silvia Donati.

  • IRMA 30th ANNIVERSARY – Paradise House Compilation

    Buy & Listen

We need to go way back to 1988, this is when the Bologna based seminal Label Irma Records released its first single First Job by Kekkotronics & LTJ.

It’s been 30 years since that day and the sound first introduced by the Label back then is now coming back as strong as ever, mainly rediscovered by those who lived through that era and the younger generation in love with dance music and House Music in general.

Among those who wrote the history of the Italian House scene, the one and only Carlo Troja aka Don Carlos was definitely at the helm. In 1991, Irma Records released it’s first single Alone, which immediately became a cult record for British DJs but mainly American DJs. Its particular soft and ambient sounds defined a genre that was then called Paradise House.

And it is from this very sound and from this great DJ that Irma Records begins the celebrations for its 30th anniversary, offering some classic cuts from it’s catalogue carefully selected by DJ Don Carlos, trying to dig between some of this music style gems, and especially some tracks that were always played in his glorius DJ Sets but were less popular at the time of their releases.

The compilation comes out as a Digital version, a Double CD, both formats including 22 Tracks and a triple vinyl version that includes 18 tracks.

Among the artists and producers that make the final selection: Ricky Montanari, Flavio Vecchi, Claudio Moz-Art Rispoli, King Britt, Angelino Albanese, Danny Losito (Double Dee), Francesco Farias (Jestofunk) and artist names as Riviera Traxx Key Tronics Ensemble, Subway Ground Master, Love Nation, Nu Model, Aritmya, Centric House, Deep Aural Penetration, Outphase, House Of Blue, Omnivores, Montego Bay, Underground, More Heavy Soul, The Loop Experience, Soft & Loud Music Enterprise and TFM.
