Man Sueto is an Italian acid jazz, jazz-funk, and groove project rooted in the historic Bologna-based label Irma Records. The project originated in the musical scene between Emilia-Romagna and Bologna, which, in the late 1980s and 1990s, helped define the so-called “Irma sound,” a blend of funk, jazz, house, soul, and lounge atmospheres. Man Sueto’s sound is characterized by smooth funk grooves, jazzy rhythms, deep bass lines, and cinematic arrangements, with Latin and Brazilian influences. Their music moves between acid jazz, rare grooves, jazz dance, and contemporary lounge, with a strong focus on the analog production typical of the 1990s.
The project revolves around musicians from the Emilia-Romagna and Romagna scene. Among the associated names is guitarist and composer Fabrizio Sirotti, listed as a member of the trio and among the authors of the two albums released on Irma Records. Drummer and percussionist Roberto Rossi is also associated with the project, along with other musicians from the Irma group. Man Sueto released their first album, Man Sueto, in 1994. The album includes songs such as “Argentina,” “Man Sueto Theme,” and “Peppo,” which became popular on the European jazz dance and lounge circuits. In 1996, they released their second album, Otello Happiness, considered one of the project’s most representative works. The album broadens their identity between jazz-funk and acid jazz with a more cinematic sound. Tracks such as “Dentro,” “Walking Around in Circle,” and “Sentimental Song” appear on numerous international compilations dedicated to the lounge and acid jazz scene.
