KEY TRONICS ENSEMBLE

Key Tronics Ensemble is one of the most iconic projects linked to the late 1980s Italian house scene and the history of Irma Records. Born from the collaboration between Francesco Montefiori, Umbi Damiani, and Cesare Collina, the project helped define the original Italo House sound, fusing house grooves, jazz-funk influences, and sophisticated electronic atmospheres. From their first releases, Key Tronics Ensemble gained international attention thanks to cult tracks such as “House Of Calypso” and especially “Calypso Of House,” considered one of the iconic productions of 1990s Italian house. Originally released in 1989 by Irma Records, the song was later remixed and distributed in the United Kingdom and the United States, consolidating the project’s international profile.
The collective’s sound is distinguished by a combination of deep house rhythms, Latin and jazz elements, refined melodic lines, and a strong club-oriented sensibility. Over the years, the name Key Tronics Ensemble has remained closely linked to the evolution of Irma’s catalog, appearing on numerous compilations and releases dedicated to house music, chill-out, and acid jazz and electronic influences. Even today, the project is recognized as one of the historic references of the Italian house scene, thanks to an elegant, recognizable sonic identity that has profoundly influenced the international dance scene.
