Since the mid-1990s, Black Mighty Wax has been producing various artists and composing songs for himself, unconstrained by current trends. In 1999, he began producing songs for an album, bringing together musicians he had previously collaborated with live or who had participated in Irma Records releases. Instead of using his primary stage name, he opted for the more “defined” name, The Black Mighty Orchestra, meaning Black Mighty Wax leads various musicians assembled like an orchestra. The title “To the Sky” reflects his spiritual attitude toward life, a desire for freedom and escape. The 18 tracks are intended to fully showcase his vast musical experience, from his early funk beginnings, through forays into urban soul and nu-jazz, to his touching and human interpretation of disco and jazz. One of Irma’s most successful albums to date. Over time, other tracks have been released where Black Mighty Wax’s “Orchestra” gave that more realistic sound to certain mainly electronic ideas.
